About Me

Billy Reed was born and raised in East Oakland, CA. Things were tough growing up, but he made his way out and knew his life mission was to help those from his community. He started working with kids in Oakland in 2010. Having worked in some of Oakland’s most challenged areas, he quickly saw what those kids needed more than anything: a lot of love, and a sense of self-worth and pride.

After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2016, Billy decided to continue his work with youth and expanded into the mental health field through different programs around Alameda County.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, he and his wife found out they were expecting their first baby. That’s when things really changed. Billy always cared about children, but now his mission and vision had changed. It became his duty to ensure his baby girl would have the support she needed not only from her family, but also through the world around.

Billy started writing his first few stories. His work focuses on positive representations of people of color. His books celebrate self love, family, confidence and acceptance in a time where it is needed most. Spreading this message has always been the priority.

When not writing away, Billy enjoys spending time with his wife, Aimee and daughter, Layla. They can often be found toting all around the East Bay exploring new things and spreading lots of smiles.
